University of South Australia understands that education is about much more than just taking notes during a lecture. To be truly informed about your field of study, you need to know how to apply the theories you have learned in industry and the workplace. Most students have the chance to get out of the lecture theatre and into the real world to gain practical experience during their studies. For example, depending on the program you choose, you could find yourself conducting experiments in a hospital or laboratory during a clinical placement; studying fossils, native wildlife, textile history or Aboriginal culture on an outback field trip; working with leaders from industry and the professions on the development and implementation of strategic business plans; or assisting teachers during a practicum placement in a childcare, pre-school or school classroom environment.
